A: peace
B: war
C: love
D: division
No, you. Stop it! You! You're good!
ANSWER: D
49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
A very interesting idea is preached here by Jesus. Belief, specifically in him, must trump everything else, including your children and parents. If you consider the historical context of this preachment, he is specifically telling people to break the commandment about honoring parents.
Seriously, how great is the Brick Bible?
Please ask any person raise religious and see if they agree that changing their religious beliefs is considered disrespectful of their parents. It's an almost universal yes.
To make things worse, no more than six chapters later Jesus tells a king specifically that he should honor his father and mother.
Luke 18: 18-20
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”
Yep, doesn't make any sense. Same book. Same supposed author. A completely incoherent message.
