Bible Trivia: Only Girls Cry

In Ezekiel 24:15-17, God tells Ezekiel he is going to take away his wife and that Ezekiel isn’t allowed to:

A:  cry

B:  remove his hat

C:  eat bread

D:  take off his shoes

well, to death do you part

ANSWER:  ALL OF THE ABOVE

15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 “Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears. 17 Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”

THE BREAKDOWN:

Apparently god decided that Zeke's wife needed to die.  No explanation is provided for why she had to die or why god didn't save her.  She didn't do anything wrong and Ezekiel was one of god's prophets, so this is a bizarre situation.

sometimes god's such a wild and crazy guy

This story creates a quandary:

Why would god, a deity considered all good, punish his prophet Ezekiel?

He wouldn't...unless he did not have the power to intervene.

However, we know that this is an impossibility because god is considered to be all powerful.

So it becomes pretty clear that god just wants her dead and wanted to give Zeke a heads up.  And more than that, god isn't just there to ruin Zeke's day but he decides to make Zeke an example for the people.

He commands him not to mourn her death.  To do nothing to relieve the sorrow he is experiencing but to just carry on as if nothing has happened.  Apparently god wanted to show the truly power of his glory by killing the wife of his prophet and having him act as if nothing bad had happened.

How are you?  Me?
Just became a widower but otherwise I'm great!

This story explains that you must always trust and honor god, no matter what happens to you, and you must deny yourself the delusion that you are anything more than gods property.
